Sonja Murphy: Hockey Fan to Help Clients With Financial Goals

by

This is a picture of Sonja Murphy.

There’s a new face — and voice at Sensible Financial. Sonja Murphy has just joined the Sensible team as an Operations Associate. She’ll be taking Erica Sibley’s place temporarily while Erica takes some time off. Sonja will manage Rick Miller’s schedule, plan meetings, and train with the operations group at Sensible.

“I really wanted to get back into financial services,” says Sonja. “Sensible is just the kind of firm I was looking for. It’s small — intimate even, which affords me more opportunities. I’ll get to wear a lot of hats.”

Before Sonja joined Sensible, she was home for a few years, taking care of her family, volunteering at her children’s school, and spending innumerable hours with her children at hockey rinks throughout New England. She was also on the boards of her local historical society and youth hockey association.

To reacquaint herself with the corporate world, Sonja took part in the reacHIRE program which provides career development and training to prepare people reentering the workforce. She also worked as a Business Analyst for Constant Contact, working with their IT department to improve operations in the CRM (customer relation management) department.

Sonja taught Finance as an Adjunct Professor at Merrimack College for five years. One of her first positions was Project Manager, Investment Operations for MetLife.

Sonja graduated with a Bachelor’s in Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where she was the captain of the varsity lacrosse and field hockey teams. Later, she earned her MBA in Business Administration from Boston University.

Sonja lives in a suburb north of Boston with her husband, an entrepreneur with a fintech background, and her two kids. Her son just started college and her daughter is a junior in high school.

The Murphy family are ardent hockey supporters. They love to watch college hockey and are big Bruins fans. The family also loves to play golf, tennis, and go skiing. They also spend as much time as they can at their remote Maine cabin where they hike, kayak, paddleboard, and enjoy the outdoors.

With her strong academic background and her varied work experience, Sonja Murphy is a wonderful addition to the Sensible team.
