Series: What Do I Need to Know About Continuing Care Retirement Communities?

by Rick Fine
June 11, 2019

After exhaustive research, I wrote a seven-part series on CCRCs (Continuing Care Retirement Communities). Many of our clients were asking about retirement options and I decided CCRCs were a good place to start. In addition to reading about the subject, I spoke to senior living experts, CCRC administrators, and residents to ask them about the many aspects of both planning for and living life in a CCRC.

The first article, Continuing Care Retirement Communities: Growing Old — in Style, introduces CCRCs and provides a general idea of what they are, what they require, and some pros and cons.

In What Is it Like to Live in a Continuing Care Retirement Community?, I list the activities and programs CCRCs offer their residents.

The third article, “The ABCs of CCRC Contracts”, I outline the CCRC contract types and how to decide which is the best one for you.

I ask the question, Am I Eligible to Live in a Continuing Care Retirement Community?, in the fourth blog post, which deals with the application process, and the medical, financial, and mental eligibility requirements for entry into most CCRCs.

The eligibility question is big enough for a second article! In this piece, I break down the expenses and describe the asset and income guidelines most CCRCs use.

Is This CCRC Worthy of Having Me as a Resident?, details the questions you, as a potential resident, should ask a representative from any CCRC you consider to determine whether it’s a good fit, both philosophically and financially.

There were so many pertinent facts about CCRCs worth noting, I covered even more in the final article in this seven-part series.

Armed with the information in these seven articles, we hope you’ll be able to make a smarter, more informed decision about where you’d like to spend your retirement.
