The operations team at Sensible has a new associate. Paul Burgholzer joined the firm in May and is training with Chuck Luce and the rest of the operations team. As with many members of the team, Paul started his academic and professional career heading in a different direction before latching on to the financial services field and Sensible Financial.
Paul graduated from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. After graduation, he stayed in D.C. and began working as technical support for a government contractor. Paul enjoyed his time in Washington and Northern Virginia, but missed living near his large, close-knit family in the Boston area. He moved back to Boston, working first as an office manager and then at Fidelity Investments, as a customer advocate and business analyst, before joining Sensible.
When asked if it was difficult to make the transition from public policy to tech to finance, Paul said, “They all involve learning systems, and those experiences are all transferable.”
Paul enjoys working at a smaller firm. “I wanted more opportunities to problem-solve and collaborate. At larger companies, you can get stuck performing the same task over and over. At Sensible, I’ll learn to do more, and I’ll be able to work with a team.”
When Paul is not working, he likes to run, play ice hockey in a local pick-up league, and spend time with friends and family. And yes, he roots for the Red Sox.
Paul said he feels lucky to be in such a great environment. “The people are friendly and work well together. I’m learning every day, and that’s something I love.”
